How to install XAMPP on Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS?

Step 1: Download the XAMPP package from their official site.

Click on the XAMPP for Linux option. After which, your downloaded file will be saved to the downloads folder by default.

Step 2: Make the XAMPP package executable

We will install the XAMPP package through the Ubuntu terminal. Open the terminal, Go to your Downloads folder to access the file.

Move to the Downloads folder by using the following command:

$ cd /home/[userName]/Downloads

Now, we need to make the downloaded file to be executable. Run the following command for this purpose:

$ chmod 755

Now, the package can be executed easily.

Step 3: Confirmation of Execute Permission

The execute permission can be checked through the following command:

ls -l

Step 4: Launch the Setup Wizard

 Run the following command in order to launch the graphical setup wizard.

sudo ./

This will launch the Setup wizard that will take you to the rest of the installation activity.

Step 5: Work through the graphical setup wizard

Click on the next button to start the installation process.

This will let you select the components of your XAMPP package.

Keeping the default settings unchanged, click on the next button. The following dialog box will inform you about the location of the XAMPP package.

Click Next to continue. The following dialog gives you the option of installing applications such as Drupal, Joomla, and WordPress, etc. keep the default settings unchanged.

Click the Next button after which the following dialog will appear:

Click Next to start the installation process.

When the installation is complete, click the Next button. The following dialog box indicates the completion of the installation process. Hence, the installation is finished.

Finally, Click on the Finish button. The following dialog will pop-up on the screen.

Uninstall XAMPP

Step 1: Open your Ubuntu Terminal and move to the directory where XAMPP is installed.
Generally, XAMPP is installed in the following directory, You can type the following command to move to that directory

cd /opt/lampp

Step 2: Now, run the uninstall command in the lampp folder, through the following command:

You need root permission to run this command.

sudo ./uninstall

Now, a dialog box will appear, Click Yes to proceed with the uninstall process.
